ABOUT WEST VIGINIA THUNDER

Elite girls basketball program dedicated to developing and showcasing our players for the college game.

West Virginia Thunder has been in existence for over 30 years. It is West Virginia’s preeminent Girls Basketball Travel Program. Based out of Huntington, WV, the program has teams ranging from 3rd grade through 11th grade. The 15U, 16U, and 17U teams play in the highly regarded Girls Under Armour Association Circuit.

Each Spring and Summer, hundreds of girls have an opportunity to compete in basketball at the highest levels throughout the country on the biggest stages in front of college coaches. This has allowed many girls to obtain scholarships and earn college degrees throughout the years.

Scott Johnson, the program director, has been named one of the 100 Most Influential People in Women’s College Basketball two years in a row by Silver Waves Media, being grouped with the likes of legendary coaches like UConn’s Geno Auriemma and South Carolina’s Dawn Staley, WNBA players A’Ja Wilson and Diana Taurasi, and members of the media such as Doris Burke and Lachina Robinson.
